Numeracy and Mathematics
In the Montessori environment, math education focuses on sensory exploration, allowing children to grasp abstract math concepts through hands-on manipulation of materials. This approach employs a three-step method—Concrete to Pictorial to Abstract (CPA) and a spiral approach that connects current and future learning to previous lessons. Children first engage with mathematical concepts through tangible activities, then represent them with drawings, and finally progress to numerical and symbolic algorithms. The approach ensures a multi-faceted understanding of mathematical concepts, helping children retain information more effectively.
